A limit order fills. You open Spot, then Trade History, find the fee on that line, and it looks about the same as it did before you switched GT deduction on. The switch has been on for days.
Hold off on calling it broken. Gate's help centre has two current pages that bear on this: one on VIP levels and fee deduction, one on how spot fees are calculated. I pulled out the lines that say what gets charged and where you can see it, and put them in the order I'd check them. Switching the feature on in the first place is covered in our setup guide, so it isn't repeated here.
1What was the fee actually paid in?
Looking unchanged isn't proof it's unchanged. On a small fill, a discounted fee and a full one can sit a few cents apart. Or the fee may have been paid in something other than GT. A fee table won't tell you which. The records will.
The spot-fee help page points to two places. Under Assets, go to Transaction History, choose Unified Account, then pick a coin to see the fees tied to it. Under Spot, Trade History shows the fees on your past trades.
The VIP help page lists three ways a fee can be paid: Gate Points, GateToken (GT), or the cryptocurrency you traded. Since each one draws on a different balance, knowing which one was used matters more than the size of the number.
My suggestion: in Transaction History, pick GT as the coin and look for a fee entry around the time of the fill. If there is one, GT is being spent. If there's nothing, keep going down this list. That's my own habit, not a line from Gate. The help pages don't say how Trade History labels the payment method, so go by what your own screen shows.
2Is the switch on right now?
On the website, the VIP help page says to click "Fee" in the navigation bar at the bottom of the page. In the app, look for the fee details under your account; the exact path varies by app version, so go by your current screen.
You turned it on once. Check that it's still on.
How big the discount is: the spot-fee page says GT can be used to pay trading fees with additional discounts, and neither page gives a percentage. Read your own figure off your account's fee page; I'm not printing one here.
3The priority rule, as Gate's help page words it
Gate's VIP help page ranks the payment methods like this: if GT is enabled for fees, GT is given priority; otherwise Gate Points get priority.
Read literally, that suggests GT goes first whenever its switch is on, even if Gate Points are switched on too; the page doesn't spell that case out. So if your records show Gate Points paying fees while you believe GT deduction is on, that's the mismatch worth writing down. The page offers no other reason for it.
If it were my account, I'd keep only one method switched on. Then whatever shows up in the ledger tells you which switch did the work, and there's one less thing to guess.
4Where the help page goes quiet
The page stops at the priority rule. It doesn't say what happens when your GT balance runs short, and it doesn't say whether choosing a plain VIP rate turns GT deduction off. If either one is behind your case, the help page won't tell you.
Gate's Chinese-language article on the same topic is written separately, not translated, and says more on these two points; I haven't carried its rules over here because it isn't the page English-language accounts are pointed to. Old announcements from around 2019 also turn up in search with different wording; they aren't a reliable guide to how things work now. Check the fee page in your own account, and ask support if it doesn't say.
What you can check yourself: the GT balance in the ledger, and whether the most recent GT fee entry stops around when your fees started looking "normal". If you need more GT, the ways to buy it are compared separately. For how rates differ by tier, see the VIP fee table.
5Unfilled orders carry no fee
According to the spot-fee page, fees are taken automatically when an order executes, and only on the part that fills. The unfilled part costs nothing.
So a limit order that's half filled has a fee on half. The rest has no fee line, and that has nothing to do with GT. When you reconcile, match the filled amount on the Trade History line, not the size you ordered.
For a rough monthly picture, the GT fee-discount calculator takes your own volume. Treat its output as an estimate; the ledger is the record.
6Taking it to support
If you've been through all of the above and still can't find a GT fee entry, it's a question for Gate. Saying "GT deduction isn't working" gets you a round of basic questions. Bring this instead:
- The time the order filled, with the time zone.
- The trading pair.
- The fee shown on that Trade History line, copied as it appears or as a screenshot.
- Whether Transaction History, filtered to GT, shows a fee entry for that period.
- Which methods were switched on at the time, GT and Gate Points each.
Blur your UID and balances in any screenshot.
A few things neither help page covers and that you can ask in the same message: which account the GT has to sit in, whether futures or margin trades use the same deduction, and what price GT is converted at when it pays a fee.
Checked against two Gate Help Center pages: "Gate VIP Levels & Handling Fee Discount" (page dated 2018-07-18) and "How to Calculate Spot Trading Fees on Gate" (page dated 2024-12-13), on 2026-09-24. I didn't use account screenshots or statements for this piece. Menu paths are paraphrased from those pages; your screen may label them differently.
